Spurs boss Juande Ramos wants the Dimitar Berbatov saga to be
concluded as soon as possible - and he has his eye on Diego Forlan and
Roque Santa Cruz as possible replacements.
Ramos has decided
Berbatov's imminent exit will clear the air at White Hart Lane and
allow him to bring in the strikers he needs, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Spaniard has been following Forlan for the past month and is prepared to offer Atletico Madrid £14million for the Uruguayan.
Forlan has claimed he is happy in Spain but Atletico are thought to
be willing to accept £17million for the striker, suggesting Ramos may
get his man.
And the Tottenham chief is also looking seriously at
Paraguayan striker Santa Cruz despite Blackburn insisting he will not
be leaving Ewood Park.
Santa Cruz scored 23 goals in his first season in English football
and with Darren Bent's impressive pre-season form disappearing under
the scrutiny of England assistant manager Franco Baldini at
Middlesbrough on Saturday Ramos is increasingly determined to land his
man.
The money will come from the sale of Berbatov, with White
Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy remaining determined to hold out for at
least £30m before he will let the Bulgarian move to United.
